June in Buffalo, the annual, world-renowned new music festival and conference dedicated to emerging composers, will take place June 9-15 on the North Campus under the leadership of cellist-composer Jonathan Golove, associate professor of music at UB.

The festival, which traditionally accepts 25 accomplished student composers from around the world by way of a large and competitive pool of applicants, also features a week-long residency of five distinguished faculty composers. This year Jonathan Golove, Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, Karola Obermüller, Hilda Paredes and Amy Williams will serve as mentors to the students throughout the week in coaching sessions, lectures and rehearsals, while also enjoying performances of some of their own work.

Ensembles and individual musicians who specialize in the performance of very recent music also appear during the festival. This year’s lineup of artists includes the return of the famed Arditti Quartet from London; the Slee Sinfonietta, UB’s professional chamber orchestra in residence and the flagship ensemble of the Robert and Carol Morris Center for 21st Century Music; the [Switch~ Ensemble]; guitarist Dieter Hennings; and vocalists Nicholas Isherwood and Tiffany Du Mouchelle. The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra is an annual participant in the festival, and will open the week’s events this year on June 9.

June in Buffalo is presented by the Department of Music and the Center for 21st Century Music.

Weekday afternoon concert events are free and open to the public. Tickets for the evening concerts and the Saturday matinee are $10, and available at TicketMaster.com or one hour before concert time at the concert venue box office. All UB students with a valid ID will receive a complimentary ticket to each event.
