Drop / Add / Resign

Learn how students can drop, add or resign a course, including deadlines and potential consequences.

Drop vs. Resign Overview (Please Read All Information on this Page for Details)
Drop Resign
Shortly after the term begins. Later in the term.
No tuition penalty in most cases. Potential tuition penalty.
No grade on transcript. “R” on transcript.

Drop or Add a Course in HUB

Students should visit their HUB Student Center (via MyUB, UBITName required) to add and drop courses. A course is not “dropped” until the student processes the request in their HUB Student Center.

Drop / Add Information and Deadlines

Fall and Spring Semesters

Students may add or drop courses at any time between their enrollment appointment and the drop/add date of the session, which is listed on the academic calendar.

Courses dropped during this period will not appear on the student’s transcript, and students are not financially responsible for these courses. Students should view their course schedule in their HUB Student Center.

Summer and Winter Sessions

Students may add or drop these courses at any time before 11:59 p.m. EST on the drop/add date, which is listed on the academic calendar. Students can also view drop/add dates in their HUB Student Center.

Even if students drop one of these classes by the drop deadline, they may still be required to pay a portion of tuition and fees associated with the class. Students should review the financial liability deadlines.

Resign a Course in HUB

Students may visit their HUB Student Center (via MyUB, UBITName and password required) to resign a course. When a student resigns:

  • An “R” remains on their transcript as a neutral indicator of the action.
  • There may be a 50–100% tuition penalty, depending on when the student resigns the course. See the Financial Liability Deadlines for more information.

Holds May Prevent Action

A hold is an action used by the university to prevent students from registering for or resigning from classes, receiving grades, and/or releasing student records, including diplomas, enrollment certification or transcripts until the reason for the hold has been resolved with the office that placed it.
