Retaining undergraduate students from their first to their second year is a critical measure of student success.
It is a strong indicator of UB’s support systems, campus climate and ability to deliver a high-quality education that meets students’ needs. Student persistence from the first to second year can impact student self-image and lifelong success, along with student and family financials.
UB has set a goal of achieving a 91% retention rate by 2022 and a 93% rate by 2025.
It takes 42 students to raise the retention rate 1%.

UB's current retention rate is 86%. In order for UB to reach the goal of 91% retention by 2022, the university will need to retain an additional 210 students. In order to reach the goal of 93% by 2025, the university will need to retain an additional 294 students.
