UB Votes Initiative

UB Votes is a non-partisan, campus-wide effort charged with increasing voter registration and engagement among UB community members in national, state-wide, local, and campus elections by uniting divergent efforts from across the university into one concerted initiative.

UB Votes fosters a civic engagement environment where students can register to vote before and after National Voter Registration Day, and learn about voter education in content-neutral, non-partisan formats during National Voter Education Week.

Voting in New York State

If you want to vote in an election, you must be registered to vote. Voter registration forms are always available in the Student Engagement office. Please note that the following information is only for domestic (not international) students.

During the New York State Early Voting Period, any students registered to vote with an on-campus address or registered in Erie County can vote at any Early Voting Polling Site in the county. Nearby options include Gloria J. Parks Community Center (3242 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14214) across from South Campus, or Amherst Center For Senior Services (370 John James Audubon Pkwy, Amherst, NY 14228) a short walk from North Campus.

Important Information:

  • To vote at your local “school” address in Erie County, put your school address as the address where you live (line #8).
  • If you would like to vote at your permanent address but will not be in your hometown on Election Day, and you are not registered to vote, then send the voter registration form to the Board of Elections Office for your home county after checking off the box that says "Yes, I need an application for an Absentee Ballot."
  • If you are already registered to vote, find information about how to request an Early Mail or Absentee Ballot.
  • To vote outside of New York State, you will need to register in your home state. You can find the voter registration form for your state at RockTheVote.com.

Ambassador of Civic Engagement Internship Program

Want to learn about civic engagement, active citizenship, and provide peer-to-peer support? The Ambassadors of Civic Engagement (ACEs) work as a team to promote civic engagement and learning at UB. ACEs will be trained in UB policies regarding freedom of assembly, speech, and expression, and will create presentations, educate the student body, and engage in content-neutral, non-partisan, direct voter contact tactics.

Information about applying for this internship will be available in 2025.

2024 Election Day Shuttle

On Election Day, UB Parking and Transportation provided a shuttle to the Center for Tomorrow Polling Site for students registered to vote with an on-campus address on North Campus.
