What is the American College Health Association (NCHA) and the National College Health Assessment (NCHA) Survey?

“Since 1920, the American College Health Association (ACHA) has been the principal leadership organization for advancing the health and well-being of college students and campus communities. We are a collaborative community where members can address issues important to their work, and we provide research, advocacy, resources, and education to support higher education professionals and their institutional missions.” (ACHA, 2025) Learn more about the ACHA.

The ACHA-National College Health Assessment (NCHA) is a nationally recognized research survey that can assist in collecting precise data on a wide range of health and wellness issues that impact the student population and affect academic performance. (ACHA, 2025)  This survey, implemented at UB every three-years, assists the university with upholding the Standards of Practice in Health Promotion in Higher Education Standards of Practice in Health Promotion. The survey measures the health behaviors and perceptions of UB students to guide future programming, initiatives and policy revision to advance student health and academic success and create an institutional and community climate of health and social justice.

Current Survey

The Spring 2025 National College Health Assessment survey will be conducted February 10, 2025 through February 28, 2025.

Every enrolled student will receive an email invite to take the survey.

You will receive an email invitation titled "Your Voice Matters: Health and Wellness Survey Invite" asking you to participate in the survey. Please read the consent and click the link at the bottom of the email if you wish to participate.

Your participation is voluntary and confidential. If you feel that answering specific demographic questions might reveal your identity, you may leave them blank. You may answer only some questions, or you may choose not to participate in the survey at all. If you do decide to participate, even if you skip some questions, please click the submit button at the end of the survey so that your response is recorded.

What to expect?

  • All enrolled students 18+ will be invited to take the NCHA's survey. 
  • The survey will ask a series of questions on a variety of topics such as health behaviors, attitudes, and perceptions.
  • All individual responses to the survey will be kept confidential.
  • The survey will take 20 minutes or less to complete.

The first 1,000 students to complete the survey will receive a small thank you gift.

How will I know if I have won a prize?  If you submit your survey by February 28, you will receive an email no later than March 7 notifying you if you’ve won.
