UB's Department of Indigenous Studies has launched a new major, the first in the SUNY system, focusing on Indigenous issues, environmental concerns, and Haudenosaunee governance. Led by Mishuana Goeman, the program aims to attract Indigenous students and prepare graduates for careers in governance, health, and environmental fields.

Monica Miles, Engineering Education professor, led a  summer camp on Buffalo's East Side, supported by UB Sustainability. The camp engaged youth in STEM activities focused on local environmental issues like air quality. The camp aimed to inspire interest in STEM and green careers while launching Buffalo’s first EPA Air Quality Flag Program, raising awareness about environmental justice and community health.

WNY is loyal to local, but that loyalty often doesn't extend to purchasing food from local farmers. Researchers on campus hope to change this through the Eat Local WNY initiative. Read more about the project and how you can get involved!
