Buffalo Business First reported that UB’s Center for Industrial Effectiveness (TCIE) will begin a workforce development program later this summer geared toward a growing wind energy industry, due to a $500,000 state grant.
Timothy Leyh, executive director of the center, believes that by 2040, the offshore wind industry is expected to increase by upward of 20,000 jobs. The UB program will prepare workers in underrepresented communities with employment in offshore wind energy through collaboration with Alfred State College, Farmingdale State College, Stony Brook University, Goodwill of Western New York and the Northland Workforce Training Center.
“There’s no formal matchmaking, where we’re connecting people to job opportunities, but we have great industry relations,” Leyh states.
