Center for Industrial Effectiveness (TCIE)

The number of clean energy jobs is growing, including those that focus on photovoltaic (PV) technology. Our three-course online series introduces the basics, explores solar system design and provides a framework for solar PV project management. Courses are particularly beneficial for engineers, HVAC installers, architects and building code inspectors.

The College at Brockport has been plagued by a complicated personnel form for numerous years. Attempts to fix it had always failed, until UB TCIE helped develop the right streamlined solution. Training, paired with assistance in implementing the Lean business methodology of reducing waste, is resulting in less time expended by HR and less confusion across the campus.

A pilot program pairing rising electrical engineering UB seniors with Western New York companies in need of technical assistance is one more way of building linkages between local employers and UB’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Students spent 40 hours per week this summer contributing their engineering know-how while absorbing realities of the business world.

Alfred State College graduates may seamlessly continue their education at UB and pursue a master’s degree in electrical engineering. A new agreement eases the application process, granting eligibility of admission to the master’s program to those who have earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering technology.

In Tonawanda’s Riverview Solar Park, Montante Solar is installing a solar array of close to 15,400 panels for the benefit of the Corning company. Project leaders recognized extra help was integral to maintaining pace for a mid-December completion. In particular, someone needed to manage the quality control program. Kyle Chiapperino, a mechanical engineering student pursuing a bachelor’s degree, was the answer.
