Scott Friedman was appointed to the UB Council on Feb. 26, 2016, by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo. Mr. Friedman is a graduate of Trinity College in Connecticut, and earned his JD at Washington University School of Law and his LLM at the University of Pennsylvania School of Law.
As a partner, and former Chairman, with the law firm of Lippes Mathias LLP, Mr. Friedman concentrates his efforts on working with entrepreneurs and family-owned businesses. Complementing his work as a business attorney, Mr. Friedman is also a General Partner in Impact Capital, a venture capital fund focused on investing in and supporting early-stage companies in and around Western New York as well as the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Varia Ventures, a venture capital platform whose focus is on supporting early stage companies from across the United States and around the World.
Friedman is the author of seven books and numerous articles, and is a frequent lecturer, locally and across the United States. He is active in the community, having served on numerous charitable boards over the years, including the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, the Elmwood Franklin School, the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy (the Albright-Knox Art Gallery),the Law Enforcement Foundation of WNY Inc. and the Western New York Venture Association.
Friedman has been recognized in prestigious listings such as Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, The Best Lawyers in America, Upstate New York Super Lawyers and Legal Elite (Buffalo Business First).
