Two major abstracting and indexing sources for history, America: History and Life, and Historical Abstracts, are now available on BISON at http://ublib.buffalo.edu/libraries/e-resources/history.html. America: History and Life focuses on the history of the United States and Canada from prehistory to the present. It covers key English-language historical journals, selected historical journals from major countries, state and local history journals and a targeted selection of journals from related disciplines. Published since 1964, the database contains more than 400,000 bibliographic records. Historical Abstracts indexes the historical literature from the rest of the world (it excludes North America) from 1450 to the present. Published since 1954, it is the largest bibliographic database for world history. Both databases are searchable by keyword, subject keyword, author/editor, title, language, document type and time period.

Another great BISON resource for historians is ArchivesUSA http://archives.chadwyck.com/.This database provides information on primary source materials from more than 4,800 archival and manuscript repositories in the United States. ArchivesUSA draws from three major information sources: the Directory of Archives and Manuscript Repositories in the United States (DAMRUS), the National Union Catalogue of Manuscript Collections (NUCMC) and the National Inventory of Documentary Sources in the United States (NIDS). The database may be searched using "Collection Search" and/or "Repository Search." "Collection Search" may be queried by subject keywords, for material from particular dates or periods, and for materials located in a particular repository or in specific towns or states. "Repository Search" will give the full address of repositories and, if available, a hotlinked address for the repository's Web site.

Historical sites beyond UB on the Web are highlighted by the Lockwood Library guide "In Search of History: An Internet Sampler" http://ublib.buffalo.edu/libraries/units/lml/Collections/histinter.html. Among the many significant historical Web sites listed are Index of Resources for Historians, which includes more than 4,000 links by subject http://ukanaix.cc.ukans.edu:80/history/ and H-Net, which features more than 100 electronic discussion lists including Cinema History, History of Childhood and Youth, Labor History, etc. http://h-net2.msu.edu/.
