Athlete of the Week

Shelly Hamilton broke her own school mark in the high jump and provisionally qualified for the National Collegiate Athletic Association Championships with her first place jump of 5'11.25" at the UB Open hosted by the track team this past weekend.

Outdoor Track and Field

The men's and women's track teams hosted Erie Community College, Roberts Wesleyan College, SUNY-Plattsburgh, SUNY-Binghamton, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and several teams from Canada at the UB Open this past weekend.

Several Bulls set new records at the meet, including senior Shelly Hamilton, who broke her own school mark in the high jump and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with her first-place jump of 5'11.25". Junior Alycia Croak placed second in the triple jump (38'9.25") and set a new school record. Freshman Sarah Kranzler qualified for the Junior Nationals as she placed first in the heptathlon with 4,266 points.

For the men's squad, senior hammer-throw winner Rashidi Greene broke the school record with a toss of 179'4", while freshman Keith Gentes placed second (172'7") and qualified for the Junior Nationals. Jason Liddle turned in a record-setting and winning performance in the pole vault (15'9"). The 4x100 relay team comprised of senior Mike Quagliata, junior Matt Streng, sophomore Peter Otovic and junior Dave Monk also broke the school mark (41.95) on its way to a second-place finish.

The Bulls will host the UB Classic tomorrow and Saturday.

Tennis

Women's
Akron 4, UB 1

Northern Illinois 4, UB 0

The women's tennis team completed its season this past weekend at the MAC Tournament hosted by Ball State.

Buffalo finished 10th in the conference as the squad lost matches to Akron (4-1) and Northern Illinois (4-0).

Men's
Ball State 4, UB 0

Northern Illinois 4, UB 0

Eastern Michigan 4, UB 3

The men's tennis team finished eighth in the Mid-American Conference as it lost to Ball State (4-0), Northern Illinois (4-0) and Eastern Michigan (4-3) at the MAC Championships.

Budi Sussanto and Tom Betjemen won their singles matches against EMU opponents and Sussanto and Onke Murdono, and Dave Emihovich and Justin Brtko won their doubles matches.

Crew

The UB crew successfully took part in the New York State Championships held last weekend in Rome.

Both the varsity lightweight eight and varsity four placed first in their final races and won gold medals. This was the varsity eight's first gold medal, the novice four's second-straight gold medal and Buffalo's best performance at the state championships.
