Sanford I. Nusbaum, 64, clinical associate professor in dental school
A memorial service was held July 7 in Congregation Havurah, Williamsville, for Sanford I. Nusbaum, clinical associate professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the School of Dental Medicine. Nusbaum, 64, a dentist and oral maxillofacial surgeon in Western New York since 1963, died July 5 in his Buffalo home after a long illness.
A graduate of the UB dental school, Nusbaum was director of oral and maxillofacial surgery at Children's Hospital, where he founded the Craniofacial Center of Western New York. From 1980-91, he had served as chair of the Department of Dentistry, director of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and director of general practice residency at Millard Fillmore Hospital.
He was a past president of the Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of Western New York and was elected a fellow of the International College of Dentists.
In 1970, as part of Project Hope, he and his family lived in Sri Lanka for a year, where he served as a visiting professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Ceylon.
