UBuffalo Esports teams represent the university in high-level competitive play and provide students with opportunities to build critical thinking and strategy skills.
Esports at the University at Buffalo is a dynamic community that embraces the passion for competitive gaming among our students. As a relatively new addition to the university's offerings, we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for gamers of all skill levels.
For students who thrive in competitive gameplay, UBuffalo Esports competes at the varsity level in Valorant, League of Legends, Overwatch 2, and Rocket League in the Esports Collegiate Conference (ESC), a subsection of the MAC Conference. We also host several intramural teams in the SUNY League, playing Dota 2, Counter-Strike (CS: GO), Super Smash Bros., and Rainbow Six Siege.
Beyond competition, we value the sense of community and encourage students to find their gaming niche through our dedicated Discord. Esports is not just a club; it's a hub for passionate gamers seeking both excellence in competition and a supportive gaming community.
Getting involved with Buffalo Esports is your gateway to exciting opportunities for both casual and competitive play and a supportive community. Whether you're a seasoned semi-pro or a newcomer eager to explore the world of gaming, there's a place for you.
To join, start by exploring the variety of game clubs we offer, including but not limited to Valorant, League of Legends, Dota 2, Counter-Strike (CS: GO), Overwatch 2, Super Smash Bros., Rocket League, and Rainbow Six Siege. Attend club meetings, participate in casual gaming sessions, and connect with peers who share your passions.
For those with a competitive edge, consider trying out for our varsity teams in Valorant, League of Legends, Overwatch 2, or Rocket League. Keep an eye on our announcements for upcoming tournaments and events, both within the university and the Esports Collegiate Conference (ESC).
The journey to becoming a part of Buffalo Esports begins by joining our Discord server, where you can find other gamers, discuss strategies for your favorite games, and stay updated on all things esports at UB. Your gaming adventure starts here!
If you would like to find people interested in a game you are passionate about, join the UBuffalo Esports Discord and message a board member.
The UB Student Gaming Association is a student-run club under the Buffalo Esports Office. This open group for UB students allows them to connect and progress through an experience that can provide them with various ways to explore their shared interests and engage with their peers. Students can choose to either be a community member or have the opportunity to engage further.
Form or join an already established game community group that provides weekly events in various game titles.
These teams are open to all active members within the Student Gaming Association and, depending on league or conference, may have specific academic requirements for participation.
Tip: This is an excellent pipeline for students looking to level up to Varsity to establish themselves in the program.
UB-organized competitive play against other gamers outside the university community, this is an opportunity for them to refine their skills through prearranged tournaments.
There is a lot of work that goes into the operations of a gaming association. Some students looking to take on leadership opportunities will have the ability to connect and lead their community through several staff roles, including games community officers, production team, student managers, student coaches and more.
