The US APEC Study Centers (ASCs) are part of the “APEC Leaders’ Education Initiative” launched by leaders of the 21 APEC economies in 1993 to promote cooperation and collaboration among universities, research institutes and academic centers in the 21 economies. The University at Buffalo’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Study Center (UBASC) is one of six centers currently in the United States that work to encourage institutional networks and academic research on trade and investment in the APEC region.
Housed within the UB Department of Geography, the UB APEC Study Center is part of a consortium of 21 APEC Study Centers across the U.S. that (1) foster research and academic discussions supporting the broader APEC mission of regional economic integration and (2) build networks of academic professionals in the region.
The co-directors of the center are Jessie Poon, Department of Geography, UB College of Arts and Sciences, and Meredith Lewis, UB School of Law.
The UB APEC Study Center is organizing the next APEC Study Centers Consortium Conference (ASCCC) at the University of California-Berkeley on November 15, 2023.
