Korean Traditional Gayageum Recital  
Featuring Academy of Korean Studies Visiting Artist Eunsun Jung

Eunsun Jung.

Eunsun Jung is an award-winning gayageum player who has performed in France, Belgium, Germany, the U.K., Japan, and the United States. Gayageum is a Korean traditional zither that originates from the Gaya Kingdom in the sixth century. Eunsun Jung was joined in concert by UB Professor of Music Sungmin Shin and Asia Research Institute Postdoctoral Fellow Stephanie Choi for a program that included traditional and contemporary Korean music. Sponsored by the Academy of Korean Studies.

Seollal (Korean New Year) Celebration

The Asia Research Institute and Korean Language Program in the Department of Linguistics cosponsor an annual new year celebration at UB that includes Korean singing, dance, trivia competitions and collaborative games, along with great Korean food. Funding is provided by the Academy of Korean Studies.

Mukbang contest

With financial support from the Asia Research Institute, the Korean Language Program organizes an annual mukbang contest for students. In this Korean online phenomenon, students acting as hosts prepare and consume food, explaining what they are doing and eating. The format offers students great opportunities to learn about Korean food and practice their Korean language skills. Funding is provided by the Academy of Korean Studies.
