Explore AI Initiative

Starting in the 2024-25 academic year, CATT will proactively support faculty through hands-on opportunities to explore some of the most notable generative AI software. Seeking to partner with the university’s units and departments, it is our objective to provide instructors with a gateway into the world of generative AI so that they might be better prepared to understand how such technologies relate to various aspects of their own teaching. More information about this initiative will be forthcoming. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to ubcatt@buffalo.edu should you have any questions or wish to potentially partner with CATT.

AI Seed Grants Initiative

In fall 2023, The Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs dedicated $50,000 in seed funding to enable faculty across the campus to integrate generative AI into course and curricular redesign. Funding was capped at $5,000 per project. Managed by Dr. Dan Kelly, this innovative program will be continuing for a second year as UB seeks to foster innovative approaches to incorporating AI in the classroom.

Faculty Fellows for AI in the Classroom

Building on our successful AI Seed Grants Initiative, CATT is introducing a new Faculty Fellows program providing $5,000 awards for five AI seed grant recipients to support continued work through the 2024-25 academic year. Faculty Fellows help to build out a community of instructional innovators within the evolving AI space and, in addition to continuing with their AI projects, will:
  • Participate in events that spotlight their innovative work.
  • Attend Community of Practice events for the 2024-25 faculty cohort.
  • Develop and submit a comprehensive project assessment plan.

2024-25 Institute on AI, Pedagogy, and the Curriculum

In fall 2024, the American Association of Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) is launching the inaugural Institute on AI, Pedagogy, and the Curriculum, designed to help departments, programs, colleges, and universities respond effectively to the challenges and opportunities AI presents for courses and curricula. Throughout the 2024–25 academic year, the institute will engage participating teams via virtual events, mentorship, and interactions as they develop and implement AI action plans for their classrooms, curricula, and campuses.

We are pleased that a team of UB professionals, led by CATT, has been selected to take part in this institute as we seek to ever more actively respond to the changing educational landscape relative to AI.
