Tatiana Istomina is a multi-media artist working with painting, sculpture, film and text. The central question in her practice is the conditions of knowledge and the variable concepts of truth. How do we know what we know? How do we know what we know is true? Is there one truth? Who owns it? Her art practice is informed by her background as a scientist specializing in physics and data analysis. A crucial element of scientific research is identifying a key problem, whose solution may hold answers to a variety of diverse phenomena. As an artist and writer, she look for similar “key” stories and images, which may appear obscure at first sight, but nevertheless signal important cultural and societal concerns.
