Dear students, faculty and staff:
I am delighted to welcome you to campus for the 2022-2023 academic year! Whether this is your first day of class at UB or you have been a part of our scholarly family for years, I hope that you had a wonderful summer and are as eager as I am for the journey of discovery that lies ahead.
While I always savor the summer months, nothing matches the energy of a new academic season: the promise of carving out one’s disciplinary niche, of experiencing intellectual breakthroughs, of developing solutions to grand challenges…
Of course, when you are still getting your bearings on campus, finding the location of your UB Seminar can be a grand challenge in and of itself! That said, if you just joined our UB community, be patient with yourself. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. We are here for you, and we want to help you. In no time, you will settle into your schedule, and your academic home. From there, you will be well positioned for your “aha” moment—the first of many you will no doubt experience at UB!
If I could offer a piece of advice to everyone today—new and returning faculty, students and staff alike—it would be to enrich your UB experience by getting involved. Depending on your role and inclinations, that could mean different things: joining a club, participating in a career development workshop, volunteering for a committee or community service, taking part in our “Let’s Talk about Race” discussions, cheering on our athletes, attending a musical or play—the list is long and varied, designed to offer something for everyone.
That’s one way we strive to cultivate a welcoming, supportive and vibrant environment for our UB community. As you consider your options, alongside the prospect of expanding the frontiers of knowledge, let me say how exciting it is to embark on this academic year with you. May it be productive and fulfilling for each of you.
Sincerely,
Satish K. Tripathi
President
