Dear university community,
Welcome back to UB, where we have much to celebrate: A new semester. A new year. A new decade!
As the rhythms of UB life return to full schedule, I hope you are energized by the extra moments of daylight we gain with each passing day. What inspires me this time of year is the sight of all of you primed for a semester of fresh insights and novel discoveries. In a dynamic intellectual community such as ours, opportunities for exploration and innovation abound. Engaging in scholarly pursuits and creative activities is what rejuvenates us.
Viewed from a purely practical perspective, there is so much to do at the start of the new year. Yes, we feel a chill in the air. But there’s anticipation in it, too. Many of you are in the process of applying for internships, fellowships or to graduate school. Perhaps you’re teaching a new course this semester, or you have a pending deadline for a research grant. Maybe you have resolved to develop in your profession with additional training or certifications. Whatever your goals, go after them. Make your UB experience the most it can be, and uniquely your own. If you need it, we are here to support you – whether faculty, student or staff – at every stage of your inquiry.
Just don’t delay. With lengthening daylight hours, time seems more expansive. But, of course, it will charge forward as swiftly as ever. Soon enough, midterms and spring break will be upon us. The snow will melt, and the trees will bud. Before we know it, we will be celebrating UB’s graduating class of 2020.
So many exciting transformations take place during the spring semester. As we embark upon it today, my hope is that yours is characterized by transformative experiences in the classroom, the laboratory, the studio and in your professional field.
Again, welcome to the start of the spring semester—and Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Satish K. Tripathi
