Dear university community:
As our region begins to dig out from a blizzard for the ages, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the members of our university community who, over the past several days, have done exceptional work to keep our campuses safe.
As the storm raged throughout Western New York, our essential employees—including those in University Police, University Facilities and Environment, Health and Safety—were contending with extended shifts, time away from family during the holidays and, of course, unyieldingly dangerous elements. Meanwhile, our staff in Residential Life and Housing Operations provided comprehensive support to our resilient residential students remaining on campus during the winter break. And though the storm is finally letting up, the efforts of our essential employees are not, as they continue to do their part to ensure that our university operates smoothly.
While we will all remember the Blizzard of 2022 for different reasons—upended holiday and travel plans; power outages; hours of shoveling and plowing; our concern for the well-being of our neighbors, friends and family; the storm’s threatening conditions and, sadly, its deadly toll—I hope we also recognize the enormous effort that our UB essential employees have made on behalf of our university and our region.
Again, my sincerest thanks to our essential employees for everything you do for our university—not only throughout this storm, but every day.
Sincerely,
Satish K. Tripathi
President
