Educational gaming co. lands $100K to target new type of customer

Buffalo-based startup Immersed Games has pivoted its business model thanks to help with customer discovery and a $100,000 investment from UB's Cultivator program.

As reported in Buffalo Inno, Immersed Games' founder and CEO, Lindsey Tropf, noted that customer discovery journeys have been important to the company since its inception; things can change fast in the K-12 educational technology space.

Before joining Cultivator, Immersed Games focused on selling its games directly to its customers — schools and school districts — which meant having a large sales team. Schools indicated it would be preferable to incorporate the games directly into the curricula being purchased by districts. Due to interest from publishers, Tropf turned to Cultivator to start doing fresh customer discovery.

In Cultivator, Immersed Games validated its business model pivot and refocused its customer base. The team is working to close partnership deals with a top 10 curriculum provider in the U.S. They also recently secured additional grants to help with continued game development.

Immersed Games continues to grow, with an 84% increase in active users over the last 12 months compared to the 12 months prior.
