Do you think you’ve got what it takes to push your limits and join the elite ranks of the UB REC 1,000 LB. CLUB? If so, it’s time to test your strength and endurance in the 1,000 LB. Challenge!

What’s the Challenge?

The rules are simple—but the challenge is far from easy. Your goal is to hit a combined total of 1,000 pounds across three major lifts: bench press, squat, and deadlift. That’s right—your maximum lift for each exercise needs to add up to or exceed 1,000 pounds! Those who rise to the challenge and succeed will be rewarded with more than just pride.

Challenge Rules

  • You must be a UB student, faculty/staff member, or have a valid Recreation membership.
  • Each of your lifts—bench press, squat, and deadlift—must be performed with good form for a single rep.
  • No dropped weights! If you drop the weight, your attempt is nullified.
  • The lightest attempts will go first, and all participants will be spotted and judged by two Alumni Arena staff members.

For those serious about lifting, equipment such as weight belts, knee sleeves, wrist wraps, Olympic shoes, singlets, and chalk are allowed (though optional). Other equipment won’t be permitted to ensure the integrity of the challenge.

When and Where?

  • Mark your calendar for Saturday, September 21, 2024, and get ready to lift at Alumni Arena. Here’s the event schedule:
  • 11:00 AM: Warm-up time. The racks and weights will be available so you can prep your body and mind.
  • 12:00 PM: The challenge begins! You’ll start with squats, move on to the bench press, and wrap it up with deadlifts.
  • Once all the lifts are completed, we’ll celebrate the new 1,000 LB. Club members with awards and photos.
