Want to level up your rec time? UB Recreation now offers Walleyball through Open REC: Sports. This fast-paced game is a fun twist on volleyball, perfect for anyone looking to mix things up.
Walleyball is similar to volleyball but with a twist. It is played inside a racquetball court, where the walls are in play. This means you can bounce the ball off the walls to set up unexpected shots, making the game faster, more dynamic, and unpredictable. Teams usually consist of two to six players, and the goal is to send the ball over the net and score points, just like traditional volleyball. However, the wall bounces add a whole new level of strategy, quick reactions, and exciting plays.
Walleyball was invented in the mid-1970s by Joe Garcia at a Los Angeles athletic club. Originally designed as a way to keep racquetball courts busy, the game quickly gained popularity because of its fast pace, easy-to-learn rules, and intense yet fun gameplay. Today, Walleyball is played in gyms, college rec centers, and even competitive leagues across the country.
