Get proof that a student is registered at UB or earned a degree from UB.
An enrollment verification is an official document that can be used whenever verification of student enrollment status is required for scholarship purposes, medical coverage, jury duty, car insurance, etc. It does not include individual course or grade information and does not provide GPA.
Current and former students can request an official transcript to verify enrollment. Transcripts should be used if the student (or requesting organization) is requesting additional information, such as GPA.
Enrollment verification is also available through the National Student Clearinghouse for all current and former UB students except for those in MD and medical residency programs. Current or former medical students should contact the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences Registrar’s Office for certification services.
Organizations such as health insurance companies and prospective employers can request enrollment verification directly from the National Student Clearinghouse. Select the “Verify Current Enrollment” option in the middle of the page after logging on to the site. The Clearinghouse charges a fee of $2.50 for this service.
Students who have been at UB spring 2011 and later can generate an Enrollment Verification Certificate via the National Student Clearinghouse.
Current or former medical students should contact the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences Registrar’s Office for certification services.
Parents and former students may generate and print an Enrollment Verification Certificate online through the National Student Clearinghouse website. Select the “Verify Current Enrollment” option in the middle of the page after logging on to the site. A fee of $2.50 is charged by the Clearinghouse for this service.
Enrollment verification through the National Student Clearinghouse includes term start date, term end date, enrollment status (full-time, half-time, less than half-time), expected graduation date, status effective date, and the date certified by UB for current and historical enrollment.
Resign (“R”) grades do not count toward a student's academic load when reporting to the National Student Clearinghouse. If a student resigns from coursework after the drop/add deadline, and these resigns change the student's academic load (ex, from full-time to part-time), the lesser academic load will be reported to the National Student Clearinghouse in subsequent reporting.
This accurate reporting of a change in status may have implications for financial aid and lending. Students should meet with their academic advisor and speak with a financial aid advisor before dropping or resigning from any courses to ensure they understand the academic and financial implications.
The University at Buffalo sends student enrollment and degree information to the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) on a monthly basis, with more frequent transmission around degree conferral periods (Feb. 1, June 1, and Sept. 1) and at the conclusion of the drop/add period. The schedule of transmissions is available at the National Student Clearinghouse site.
If you recently made changes to your enrollment and would like an enrollment verification that reflects these changes, please allow time for the NSC information to be updated.
Enrollment Verification Certificates should not be used for deferment purposes. Most lenders and loan servicing organizations that participate in the National Student Clearinghouse also participate in our paperless deferment process. With this process, no paper forms need to be completed by either students or schools. Students must call their servicer to request deferment. The servicer then posts a deferment to the student’s account after the student’s verbal order is confirmed with the National Student Clearinghouse.
Current and former students can get verification of degree or additional degree-related information (such as GPA) by requesting an official transcript.
A hold is an action used by the university to prevent students from registering for or resigning from classes, receiving grades, and/or releasing student records, including diplomas, enrollment certification or transcripts until the reason for the hold has been resolved with the office that placed it.
Degree verification is also available through the National Student Clearinghouse for all current and former UB students except those with MD degrees. Organizations (such as health insurance companies and prospective employers) can request degree verification directly from the Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse charges a fee of $15.00 for this service. Be sure to select the correct school:
The School of Medicine does not participate in the Clearinghouse. If you wish to verify an MD degree, contact the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences for certification services.
If an organization requesting verification has its own form, students or parents should complete the portion of the form with their information and then attach an official transcript or the Enrollment Verification Certificate from the National Student Clearinghouse or indicate that verification is available through the National Student Clearinghouse. The University at Buffalo does not complete verification forms from organizations.
Information about students may be released only according to the information release decision students provided by the university. If a student has requested that the University at Buffalo not release their directory information, enrollment and degree verification cannot be provided. If a student has already requested non-release, they must submit a Request for Directory and Information Release / Non-Release form to permit enrollment or degree verification.
UB also offers certified electronic diplomas and certificates, which can be verified.
Requests for disciplinary records should be sent to the Office of Student Conduct and Advocacy.
