UB Campus Dining and Shops and 3 Pillars catering compost all kitchen scraps, pre-consumer and catering food waste. UB Campus Dining and Shops has used an Eco-Smart food dehydrator to help manage food waste since 2009. In 2016, UB began working with a Natural Upcycling which operates an anaerobic digestor. When UB's Eco-Smart machine is at capacity, food waste is now diverted to "feed" an anaerobic digestor.
