UB pharmacy school welcomes PharmD Class of 2026 in White Coat Ceremony and Orientation

The White Coat Ceremony symbolizes the passage into the initial stages of the profession of pharmacy practice and represents a contract for excellence in providing compassionate patient care.

This event also highlights the importance of scientific scholarship and emphasizes the highest principles of moral, ethical, and legal conduct. UB PharmD students taking part in this tradition are welcomed to begin study among the ranks of pharmacy professionals.

During the "Calling of the Class," students were recognized by Karl D. Fiebelkorn, senior associate dean, student, professional, and community affairs, and crossed the stage wearing their time-honored white coats.

“This ceremony marks your entry into a professional degree program and we welcome you as young professionals and junior colleagues, said Gary M. Pollack, PhD ’84, dean, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science. “Your goals will shift from short term goals to long term goals where you will begin to master a knowledge base to build a strong foundation for future success.”

Olivia Denny, PharmD ’22, first year pharmacy resident at Kaleida Health Buffalo General Medical Center delivered the keynote address. “Today you wear your white coat and recite the Oath of the Pharmacist for the first time as a class, and in doing so, you acknowledge and accept a charge to lead a lifetime of service to others through the profession of pharmacy.”

PharmD students along with incoming pharmaceutical sciences students also participated in other additional orientation programs to learn about school policies, spend time with student organization representatives, and meet with faculty and staff who will help support and guide their academic journey.
