UB APhA-ASP chapter earns regional leadership role and awards at Midyear Regional Meeting

The University at Buffalo (UB) School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPPS) chapter of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) earned a regional leadership role and awards at the APhA-ASP Midyear Regional Meeting (MRM) in Bristol, CT.
The APhA-ASP MRM provides opportunities for student pharmacists to participate in leadership development, network with fellow students, explore career opportunities with potential employers and celebrate the achievements of APhA-ASP chapters.
Regional Leadership Role
At this year’s MRM, Serena Roberts, PharmD’24, UB APhA-ASP chapter Policy Vice President, was elected Regional Delegate for Region 1 for 2022-2023. Roberts’ responsibilities will include speaking on behalf of all Region 1 pharmacy schools and working with APhA staff to coordinate MRM 2023. She will also be responsible for promoting advocacy and awareness and will manage communications for the 17 pharmacy schools and two satellite campuses in Region 1.
“I am absolutely ecstatic about being elected as the Region 1 Delegate for APhA-ASP,” says Roberts. “As Regional Delegate, my goal is to spread awareness about issues affecting pharmacy, represent my pharmacy peers, and be their voice. I have a great zeal for knowing that through collaboration we will be able to optimize healthcare outcomes for the betterment of patients' lives and move the pharmaceutical profession forward.”
Regional Awards
At this year’s MRM, the UB APhA-ASP chapter received the Region 1 Operation Heart Award and the Region 1 Operation Immunization Award.
Twelve-Time Operation Heart Award Winners
The APhA-ASP Operation Heart Award is given for outstanding development and implementation of Operation Heart, a patient care project that increases awareness of cardiovascular disease through screening and educational activities, leading to improvements in health nationwide.
The UB APhA-ASP chapter received the Operation Heart Award for educating over 1,000 patients on hyperlipidemia (HLD) and hypertension (HTN) management, educating patients on available screenings, medication therapies and heart-healthy lifestyle modifications, and offering heart-healthy cookbooks and free yoga classes to student members. This is the twelfth consecutive year the UB APhA-ASP chapter has won this award.
Two-Time Operation Immunization Award Winners
The APhA-ASP Operations Immunization Award is given for outstanding development and implementation of Operation Immunization, a patient care project designed to increase the public’s knowledge of immunizations while increasing the number of adults receiving immunizations.
The UB APhA-ASP chapter received the Operation Immunization Award for hosting vaccine clinics for human papillomavirus (HPV), COVID-19, and influenza and for providing education on HPV vaccines. This is the second consecutive year the UB APhA-ASP chapter has won this award.
