Description of the phish / scam

An email supposedly from the "Admin" at the University at Buffalo claims that your account will terminate 7/7/2024 and requests that you take appropriate steps to download important files or resources.. The message directs you to send account information via SMS (text message) to a non-UB number.

How you can tell it is a scam

  • The message did not originate from the University at Buffalo
  • Most of the links point to pages hosted by Northeastern University
  • UB will NEVER ask for the information requested via SMS or any other method

I think I have been scammed. What should I do?

Immediately change your password, verify devices in Duo only incude your own, and contact the UBIT Help Center if you see any other unusual activity on your account.
