In October 2019, we welcomed Kelly Duran to our team as Assistant CIO and Director of Strategic Portfolio Management. Her appointment makes our organization more focused and better positioned to prioritize the needs of UB’s departments and decanal units.
We are extremely fortunate to have someone of Kelly’s professional caliber among our ranks. She comes to us from Daemen College, where she served most recently as Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer. Her 17-year career at Daemen has seen her take on a variety of important roles encompassing networks, information security, disaster management and more.
Kelly’s scope and leadership in this new role is already advancing our perennial commitment to meet the needs of our university community and its partners.
We began to formalize that commitment several years ago, when we brought together a cross-departmental team to put into practice the prioritization, tracking and reporting on the portfolio of projects and services we manage on behalf of the university. At the direction of the Provost, UBIT connected this effort to the Data Governance Council to look across university-wide investments. I want to thank Steve Heist, Kari Costelloe, our senior leadership and every dedicated individual who participated in this committee for their hard work in this important area.
This work is so critical because it gives the university a clear sight toward our shared priorities, and the degree to which we are effectively utilizing IT capabilities for the benefit of the campus community.
But there’s more to it than that. By maintaining a living, transparent portfolio of our services, we provide a clear window through which our constituents can view and assess our work. To me, this work is synonymous with the trust relationships we’ve worked hard to build among our campus community.
This, then, is an exciting and pivotal moment. With our practice more transparent and focused than ever, Kelly is poised to help grow the trust we work hard to cultivate at UB, taking our organization from good to great. I want to thank Kelly for joining our team—I hope you’ll join me in making her feel welcome here at UB.
