PolitiFact quoted Siwei Lyu, SUNY Empire Innovation Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and director of the UB Media Forensic Lab, in an article fact-checking a misleading video that appeared to show President Joe Biden speaking slowly and slurring his speech during his speech on July 4.
The video that circulated on Facebook was slowed down. “It is roughly 80% of the original playback sound,” said Lyu, adding he could hear “clear audio artifacts” that suggested the video had been altered, especially when the crowd clapped for Biden at the beginning of his speech. “The clapping sounds like an echo, which is the artifact caused by the time-stretching algorithm,” he said.
