Greetings from Campus Living

Whether you are returning from winter break, or coming to live at UB for the first time, we welcome you to your home away from home. We are committed to providing a safe, clean and vibrant community for you to excel personally and academically from the moment you arrive here.

Living on campus provides you with built-in connections to academic programs as well as opportunities to become involved with student clubs and organizations all while making friends that will last a lifetime.

Returning Residents

Opening Date: 1/23

  • On-campus residence halls and apartments re-open at 9 a.m.
  • You may go directly to your assigned room.
  • You will need to complete break check-in process in the housing portal.
  •  You are not required to check-in in person or meet with any staff upon arrival.
  • Don't forget to bring your UB ID card and keys.
Move In Carts Available

When you have completed your move, you must return carts to your original pick-up location. Inventory is limited and returning them promptly will make them available for other residents.

Early Arrival

If you need to return to on-campus housing prior to January 23 you must log in to the Housing Portal and select Move In and Break Housing Requests from the menu, then select the early arrival option. 

Late Arrival

Room assignments will typically be held until 5 p.m. on the first day of classes, January 24. If you will move in after January 24, request Late Move-In.

What to Expect at Move In

Opening Dates:

FOR CURRENT UB STUDENTS WHO HAVE NEVER LIVED ON CAMPUS : 1/23

FOR NEW Spring Semester STUDENTs: 1/21

NOTE: Since this is prior to the official opening of on-campus housing, new students must also complete an Early Arrival Request in the Housing Portal.

  • Report to your designated check-in location between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. 
  • Designated check-in locations are in the area and village office for your assigned residence hall/apartment. 
  • You must bring a photo ID to complete check-in.
  • A staff member will check you in and give you your key, as well as directions to your room or apartment location.
Office Closed?

Should the office be closed, residential life staff may be contacted by:

  • Calling the residential life staff member on call. Numbers should be posted at the area or complex office.
  • Call the University Police non-emergency number at 716-645-2227 and ask for the residential life staff member on call.
  • If you do not have a cell phone, call boxes are located on-campus for use.

Early Arrival

Students may request to arrive as early as January 20.

Log into the Housing Portal and select Move in and Break Housing Requests from the menu, then select the early arrival option.

  •  New domestic spring students may arrive beginning on 1/21 to help get acclimated to campus and attend Winter Welcome Day (no additional charges apply)

Late Arrival

Room assignments will typically be held until 5 p.m. on the first day of classes, January 24. If you will move in after January 24, request Late Move-In.

Shipping Belongings Before Arrival

  • Campus Living will begin accepting letters and packages for spring 2024 students on January 22, 2024; please do not ship items to your campus address before that date.
  • Students who have items shipped to campus prior to their arrival will be sent an email with details on how to pick up their mail.

Retrieving your mail and packages

Each residential area on-campus has its own mail & package area.  Students are provided a mailbox for flat letters; students will be notified via their ‘buffalo.edu’ email with details of where to retrieve packages. 

All campus mail is first delivered to our central mail service center, located on North Campus.  From there it is processed and sent to our individual residential areas for delivery.  All packages are ready for pick up within 2 business days of arriving on campus.

Checking In: Step by Step

Check In at the Village Office

All apartment residents must check-in at their Village Office located in the community building to receive their key.

  1. Park in the lot closest to your check in location and proceed to the nearest entrance. Do not unload at this time. 
  2. There will be a station where you will receive your key(s) and a post card with directions (including URL’s with turn by turn directions) to your assigned parking lot and other important information. 
  3. Use the provided Google map below to navigate to the parking lot closest to your building.
  4. Unload your vehicle then you (or a helper) moves car to long-term parking spaces. In the meantime you (or helpers) may begin moving belongings to your assigned room.
Move In Carts Available

After use, return carts to your original pick-up location for cleaning and sanitizing. Inventory is limited and returning them promptly will make them available for other residents.

Moving In After Hours?

If you need to arrive after published hours, call the number posted at the area or complex office; or contact University Police at 716-645-2227 upon arrival on campus. They will notify a staff member on duty to meet you at your check-in site.

Finding Your Apartment

We have created custom Google maps to help you find the parking lot closest to your assigned building. 

When the map loads, click "Directions" to get turn by turn navigation to the unloading zone.

Assignment Changes

At UB, we will work with you to try to accommodate housing change requests. However, these changes may take time, and are not always possible due to room availability and other considerations.

Cancel Housing

The housing cancellation deadline is December 1. Cancellation requests received after this date will be evaluated on a case by case basis and may incur a financial penalty.

What are the current housing costs?

Student bills, including your spring housing charge, will be issued on December 27 with a due date of January 24.

DINING AND FOOD SERVICE

When can I start using my meal plan?

For new students, dining points are active for use starting on Saturday, August 17, 2024. Meal swipes/meal exchanges are active starting on Thursday, August 22, 2024.

What do I need to use my meal plan?

Everything is accessed using your UB Card. But you can also download the GET App, a mobile platform that provides convenience by linking your UB Card right to your smartphone. You can order food, make reservations, add funds, even pay with your phone all with the app.

Use the “Scan Card” feature for contactless payment, and online ordering to skip waiting in lines.

  • Search “CBORD GET” in the App Store
  • Install and open “GET Mobile”
  • Select “University at Buffalo”
  • Allow access to photos on your device
  • Login in with your UBITName and password
