Are you looking to learn more about AI and how to incorporate it into your teaching? SUNY is partnering with Lumen to provide free access to the Lumen Circle Fellowship Program.
Lumen Circles are faculty professional development experiences that use virtual learning communities to connect faculty members with peers from across the United States and help them hone their expertise as student-centered teachers. Grounded in evidence-based teaching practices and self-reflection, Lumen Circles work well for any faculty member, in any discipline, and at any stage of career.
Through the Lumen/SUNY agreement, UB has been given the opportunity to recruit institution-specific cohorts for the Lumen Circles centering around AI-enabled pedagogy.
This Circle has been designed for faculty new to AI and explores how to use evidence-based teaching practices to discover the transformative power of using AI. Throughout the fellowship, educators will learn how AI tools can help them personalize learning, enhance engagement, and provide students with valuable feedback, all while learning about and following evidence-based teaching practices.
This Circle, designed for faculty who have experience using AI tools, introduces the practice of prompt engineering. Participants will learn advanced techniques for prompting first-generation models like OpenAI’s GPT-4o and Anthropic’s Claude 3.5, as well as emerging techniques for prompting second-generation models like OpenAI’s o1, and how to use these in the service of teaching and learning. Participants will also learn how to create a chatbot that can answer students’ questions about their syllabus and other course-specific information using OpenAI’s Custom GPTs.
Both Circles will be offered in spring 2025, beginning in early February.
Due to significant interest in the program, we have reached our capacity ahead of the original deadline. We will share any additional Circles opportunities as they become available.
