2023 Conference: Perspectives on Inclusive Pedagogy

The 2023 installment of our annual conference looked specifically at inclusive pedagogy, which at its core is a student-centered teaching approach that seeks to foster an inclusive and engaging learning environment for all students, regardless of background, preferred learning modes or physical and cognitive abilities. As such, our presenters offered perspectives from their own approaches to this concept, as we continue critical discussion toward broader issues of Diversity, Equity, Justice and Inclusivity in higher education.

Community responsibility and Indigenous values in the academy.

Sweeney Windchief (Nakóna) is a member of the Fort Peck Tribes in northern Montana and serves as an associate professor at Montana State University, located in Bozeman. His research interests fall under the umbrella of Indigenous intellectualism to include Indigenous methodologies in research and Indigenous student persistence in higher education. His teaching privileges include critical race theory, Indigenous methodologies in research, and law and policy in higher education. As a Co-PI of the Sloan Indigenous Graduate Partnership, his service is toward the overall goal of the to strengthen and expand university initiatives to recruit, retain, and graduate American Indian and Alaska Native students in STEM master’s and doctoral programs. He and his wife Sara have two sons who help keep things in perspective.
