An interview is your moment to be confident and tell an employer why you can do the job and why you should be hired for the position. We are here to help you prepare and get the job that is a right fit for you.

How We Can Help You

Interview Skills

Learn best practices to interview on the phone, in-person, and virtually. This is an opportunity to help you overcome your personal barriers as they relate to interviewing.

Mock Interview

This interview appointment will be simulated to reflect an actual interview experience. You will be asked to please provide your resume and a job description/posting. Feedback will be provided at the end of the session.

Before the Interview

Do Your Research

Use the “About” section on a company’s website to gather background information and also incorporate your research into your responses.

Review the Job

Review the responsibilities and make sure you can match your experiences and skills to what's required.

Make sure your resume reflects the position description.

Review Your Resume

Be prepared to discuss experiences and projects that are on your resume. It’s a great idea to meet with a Career Counselor to have your resume reviewed.

Brainstorm

Think of possible questions that might be asked and write your responses on an index card.

Practice

Practice makes perfect! Practice your responses out loud with a Career Counselor during a practice interview.

Dress for Success

When it comes to dressing for an interview, think trendy, but conservative. Wear a suit coat, dress, shirt and pants or a skirt that is clean, wrinkle-free and fits properly.

During the Interview

Smile

Smile, sit up straight, make eye contact and nod your head to show that you're listening. These are top ways to stay engaged and show interest.

Answer Completely

Make your answers accurate, brief and as interesting as possible. Try to stay on topic.

Be Specific

Focus on your role in the situation and specifically what action steps you took.

Ask Thoughtful Questions

If they ask, “Do you have any questions for us?” you should be prepared with thoughtful questions regarding the position and the company. This is your opportunity to show how interested you are in the position.

Find Out Next Steps

Find out what their next steps are in the interviewing process and when they might take place.

Express Thanks

Thank the interviewer for their time and interest in you. Also, thank anyone else who helped you on the way out.

After the Interview

Send a Thank You Note

Sending a hand-written thank you note or an email after the interview is a great way to remind the employer who you are. You can also share skills and experiences that you weren't able to discuss during the interview. Ideally, you'd want to send your thank you note within 24 to 48 hours after your interview.
