In accordance with the UB Curriculum Assessment Plan, mandated by Faculty Senate, Middles States and SUNY, data on student achievement of the learning outcomes for all UB Curriculum components shall be assessed cyclically.
The current UB Curriculum Assessment Plan is based on a five year cycle. Assessment of the UB Curriculum began in the first year of implementation (2016). The most updated schedule can be found on our Assessment Cycle & Results page.
The UBC Sub-Committees that oversee each component determine and develop the assessment plan, associated faculty rubric and any relevant student surveys, in consultation with the office of Curriculum, Assessment and Teaching Transformation (CATT) and the UB Curriculum office.
The UB Curriculum office collects the data and provides it in summary form to the related UBC sub-committee review. The committee then writes a report and makes any relevant recommendations to the UBC Steering Committee.
This data helps to evaluate the effectiveness of each component overall and inform adjustments that might be necessary as we strive for continuous improvement.
No, students do not have access to the assessment data; it is for internal use only. In some cases, we ask for student person numbers so we can mine demographic data.
No, this is not a review of faculty. The data will be evaluated and reported as a whole (all sections, all students).
