Application Programmer Student Intern

We are seeking a motivated and talented student programmer to join our team as a paid intern. In this role, you will work closely with our development team to create and enhance VR and immersive environments using Unreal Engine or Unity Engine. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. This is an on premise internship.

Responsibilities:

As an Application Programmer Student Intern at the University at Buffalo, you will:

  • Design, develop, test, maintain, and document application software for UB's immersive teaching and learning environment.
  • Collaborate with team members and academic partners to create and adapt academic course material for use in immersive technology.
  • Assist team members and academic partners in the development of customer specifications, contributing to the overall success of the team.
  • Understand and utilize contemporary immersive development tools and techniques, including Unreal Engine or Unity Engine.
  • Stay abreast of new technology and industry trends in VR and immersive environments actively seeking opportunities to advance UB learning environments through the integration of innovative solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Computer Science, Game Development, or related program.
  • Strong programming skills in C++ (for Unreal Engine) or C# (for Unity Engine).
  • Experience with Unreal Engine or Unity Engine.
  • Passion for virtual reality and immersive technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with VR development projects.
  • Knowledge of 3D modeling and animation.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).

Open to enrolled students from all backgrounds. Successful
candidates:

  • Must be eligible for employment in the US – international students must obtain a Social Security number prior to starting work
  • May not hold any other positions at the University at Buffalo

Internship Dates and Compensation:

  • January 16, 2025 - January 15, 2026, part-time
  • $20 - $25 per hour
