Best Practices

More than Social Media Images Copy Our Platforms

Copy

On our social media accounts, we strive to convey a tone and voice that we describe as "smart college friend" - a fellow student who happens to have all the answers. Authoritative, supportive, encouraging, and caring.

Though we will always adjust the submitted copy, following some best practices can improve all of your marketing efforts:

  • Speak TO students, not about students. Write all of your marketing materials as if you're talking to a student, not a colleague.
  • Avoid overused phrases such as "join us...." or "Don't forget..."
  • Try starting your copy with an action or facts:
    • An action: "Listen in weekly to the LEAD On! Podcast - a journey through others' leadership experience so that you can discover your own."
    • Facts: Did you know that most people today find their jobs through networking? Learn how to go beyond networking and make professional friends."
  • Instead of asking questions, try to use active language:
    • Question: "Do you hate applying for jobs? Make an appointment at the Career Design Center and make it easy peasy."
    • Active: Applying for jobs can be as exciting as watching paint dry. Make an appointment at the Career Design Center and learn how to make it as easy and fun as possible
  • Ask yourself the following questions:
    • How would a 19-year-old college student tell their friend about this?
    • Would I want to read this social post and click on this link?
