Gyeonggi Summer 2023
The 2023 Summer Gyeonggi Province Youth Ladder Program, hosted by the Asia Research Institute, held its first annual month-long langauge and cultural immersion program from July 2 to July 29, 2023. . Over the course of the program, students participated in English language classes, cultural excursions, and interactive activities designed to introduce them to life in Buffalo and acclimate to their new academic environment.
Beyond the classroom, students explored Western New York’s cultural and natural landmarks, including Niagara Falls, Old Fort Niagara, and the Buffalo AKG Museum. Activities such as kayaking on Lake LaSalle, attending a Buffalo Bisons baseball game, and participating in community service at St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy allowed students to engage with their surroundings in meaningful ways. A trip to East Aurora introduced students to local history, featuring visits to the Roycroft Campus, Vidler's Five and Dime, and a meeting with the town mayor.
The program concluded with capstone presentations and a closing ceremony, celebrating students' achievements before they enjoyed a Buffalo River tour and farewell dinner at Pearl Street Grill and Brewery.
