The Stephen C. Dunnett study abroad scholarship provides funds to help UB students participate in a University at Buffalo or SUNY study abroad program. Based on available funds, a limited number of partial scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to assist students with the costs of study abroad for an academic year, semester, summer, or winter program.
Dr. Stephen C. Dunnett, PhD '77, BA '68, established this fund in order to help University at Buffalo students better understand and participate in our interconnected global world. Since 1989, Dr. Stephen Dunnett has served UB as Vice Provost for International Education at UB. In this leadership position, he is the chief university officer responsible for the comprehensive internationalization of UB, including international enrollment management, the recruitment of international students, services for international students and scholars, study abroad, exchange programs with overseas institutions of higher education and oversight of UB's branch campus in Singapore. His work has had a profound impact on the academic and cultural ethos of UB.
Dr. Dunnett created this endowment with the belief that experiencing other cultures through study abroad not only enhances students' personal self-growth, but also prepares them to effectively participate and compete in an increasingly multicultural and global society. Through this gift, Dr. Dunnett seeks to reduce the financial barriers to immersive study abroad experiences, thereby allowing access to this transformational experience to a wider populations of UB students.
