First-Year Global Experience Scholarship

The First-Year Global Experience Scholarship is awarded to University at Buffalo first-year students who plan to participate in the First-Year Global Experience Program. Based on available funds, a limited number of partial scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to assist students with the costs of this special first-year student program. These scholarships are awarded to help with additional expenses such as airfare and are not designed to cover the majority of the overall program fee.

Who Can Apply:

  • Applicants must be first-year students who are planning to participate in the First-Year Global Experience Program and are currently enrolled, full-time, matriculated University at Buffalo students in good academic standing at the time of application.
  • Funding will not be disbursed to students until after they have been accepted to and confirm their participation in the UB First-Year Global Experience Program. Eligible students will be registered at UB in OPR courses. Scholarship funds are disbursed to students' accounts after the start of the study abroad program.

Selection Criteria:

Preference will be given to:

  • First-time study abroad participants
  • Students with documented financial need (as confirmed by UB Financial Aid Office)
  • Students with a demonstrated interest in the goals of the First-Year Global Experience and the ability to articulate how this program will benefit them in the future

Award Guidelines:

  • Applications will be reviewed by the UB Education Abroad Office
  • The award decisions of the committee are final and not subject to appeal.
  • Awards will be applied directly to the recipient’s UB student account.
  • Scholarship recipients are asked to help UB Education Abroad in promotional activities upon return.
  • Recipients of any Office of International Education scholarship will not be considered for future awards.

Application Details:

This scholarship is managed directly by the UB Education Abroad Office. Students interested in this award should reference this scholarship during the interview portion of the program application.

Completed applications are due by October 1 for winter programs abroad.
