The Council on International Studies and Programs (CISP) that advises the provost on international studies and programs. As a consultive body, it is a distinctive feature in UB’s governance of international education.
The Council includes ex-officio members from the Office of International Education and 30 faculty from a wide range of disciplines who are involved in international activities at the university.
The Council was first established in the 1960s at a time when UB’s international student population and international activities were growing rapidly.
As currently constituted, the Council is consulted on policies and programs in the international area, and works closely with the Office of International Education in developing and evaluating plans for university-wide international initiatives.
The Council meets six times each academic year and forms subcommittees to address emergent issues of concern. It has had a major role in the development and implementation of UB’s strategic internationalization plan - and on an ongoing basis addresses many issues of institutional significance, including:
In recent years, the Council was instrumental in developing the International Experience Track of the Global Pathway requirement in the new UB Curriculum, and it organized the university-wide Task Force on the Inclusion and Engagement of International Students at UB, the recommendations of which are currently being implemented.
