The UB Office of International Education (OIE) offers these funds.

What Can Be Funded

  • The organization of academic programs (e.g., talks and workshops)
  • Research travel expenses
  • Purchase and collection of data
  • Proofreading, indexing, subvention or any other publication expenses
  • Research assistants

What Cannot Be Funded

  • Permanent equipment
  • Software
  • Conference travel
  • Office supplies
  • Faculty or staff salary

Funding Arrangement

The fund (up to $1,000) will be disbursed to the PI’s home department normally within two weeks of the application and is expected to be expended within two months after the disbursement of the fund. 

Eligibility

Any tenure-track (pre-tenure and tenured), clinical or research faculty who conduct research or creative work on important global/international topics are eligible to apply.

Priority will be given to those who have not received a rapid grant recently.

Application Materials

To apply for a rapid grant, please submit the following:

A completed application on the submission site, to include:

  • Project title                                                                              
  • Name, title, departmental affiliation, and contact information for the principal investigator.                                                
  • Project start and end dates
  • A research/project narrative of no more than 200 words
  • An itemized budget for the funding request, and a budget justification
  • A brief CV of the principal investigator (no longer than five pages)
  • If applicable, IRB approval or proof of IRB application
  • Disclosure of amount and source of other funds available to support this project
  • A signed form from the chair of the PI’s home department that indicates a commitment to administer the fund

Deadline and Submission

Applicants must submit all required documents as separate files (PDF or WORD) to the OIE submission site. Applications are accepted on a rolling deadline.

Evaluation Procedure

Applications will be evaluated by a UB faculty committee convened by the OIE. Applicants will be notified of their funding decision normally within a week from the deadline.

Summary Report

The awardee is required to submit a summary report of no more than 500 words within a month of the conclusion of the project. The summary report should be submitted to the Office of International Education at OIEgrants@buffalo.edu. Failure to submit the summary report in time may make the awardee ineligible for future OIE grants.
