Exporting and Downloading Course Content and Student Interactions

Instructors are encouraged to back up course content and save student interactions, including grades, assignment submissions and quiz answers.

Exporting Course Content

Export as Brightspace Package exports course content only. It does not export student enrollments or submissions.

  1. On the navbar, click Instructor Only and select Copy Course.
  2. Click Export as Brightspace Package.
  3. Click Start.
  4. Click Select All Components.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Click Include course files in the export package under Additional Components to Export.
  7. Click Export.
  8. A red dot will display on the Updates icon (the bell icon at the top of the page) when the export is finished. Click the Updates icon and click Export finished.
  9. Download the export ZIP file. The file must remain in the ZIP format to import the content.

Exporting Grades

  1. On the navbar, click Grades.
  2. Click Export.
  3. Select export options, including Grade Values and User Details.
  4. Select grade items to export.
  5. Click Export to CSV or Export to Excel.
  6. Click Download when the export file is ready.

Downloading Assignment Submissions

For courses with larger enrollments, you may need to change the per page drop-down menu (bottom of the page) in Step 3 or download submissions in batches. 

  1. On the navbar, click Assessments and select Assignments.
  2. Click the assignment name.
  3. Click the checkbox next to Last Name First Name to select all the assignment submissions on the page.
  4. Click Download.
  5. Click Download when the download file is ready.

Downloading Quiz Answers

If your role is not checked in Step 6, the report will not be displayed in the list.

  1. On the navbar, click Assessments and select Quizzes.
  2. Click the chevron icon next to the quiz name and select Setup Reports.
  3. Click Add Report.
  4. Enter a name for the report.
  5. Click Attempt Details and set additional options if necessary.
  6. Click the checkbox for Instructor (or the name of your role) in the Release Report To section.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Click Save and Close.
  9. Click the chevron icon next to the quiz name and select View Reports.
  10. Click on the name of the report.
  11. Enter From and To dates if necessary.
  12. Click Generate CSV or Generate Excel.
  13. Click Close.
  14. A red dot will display on the Updates icon (the bell icon at the top of the page) when the report has been created. Click the Updates icon and click Export finished.
  15. Download the report.

Copying Discussion Posts

UB Learns does not have a feature for exporting discussion posts, so instructors need to copy posts and paste them into Microsoft Word or another word processing program.
