Our term "Open REC: Sports" encompasses laid-back and inclusive sports activities, designed for individuals with diverse skill levels and backgrounds. We prioritize enjoyment and physical activity over fierce competition, and the best part is, these activities are part of your Recreation membership.

OPEN REC: Programs, our more structured approach to Open REC, let us take the pressure off and allow yourself to enjoy some of our student-led programming.

If you are looking for a job in Recreation, we encourage you to apply so that you can begin to work where you play. We have fun. We play hard. We live well.

Are you a graduate student interested in a REC physical activity course? Graduate students can register for undergraduate courses with approval to enhance their well-being. To imitate the process, graduate students should complete the petition to take a course outside of their major. Once approved, the student will be officially registered.

Recreation offers a variety of physical activity classes for academic credit. At present, approximately 100 courses are offered each semester in areas such as dance, yoga, aerobic exercise, fitness and conditioning, swimming and racquet sports. In addition, courses are offered that may lend to a certification in softball/baseball umpiring, lifeguarding and water safety instruction.

Physical activity 1 and 2 credited courses are repeatable; no more than 8 credit hours of physical activity course work can count towards total credit hours required for Bachelor's degree conferral.

Various formats cater to different preferences, providing an array of benefits that can enhance your fitness journey compared to solo workouts.

Among the advantages are exposure to a social and enjoyable atmosphere, access to a safely and thoughtfully structured workout, the establishment of a consistent exercise routine, increased accountability for participation, and the opportunity for a workout that demands no prior exercise knowledge or experience.

Classes are offered only to UB Students and are on a first come, first served basis.
