Carol O’Connell

Carol brings over 20 years of strategic leadership to the VPRED, including over 10 years at UB. As Director of Grant Initiatives, she developed collaborations to help diversify UB’s research funding portfolio, engaging with faculty, partners and interest groups across the university to increase the economic and community impacts of university research initiatives.

Her stewardship of UB’s Limited Submission program increased awareness and participation of faculty in these external funding competitions. Under her leadership, our Office of Research Advancement was instrumental in orienting new faculty to UB’s research enterprise, establishing critical research supports for faculty, and increasing competitive proposal submissions. She works closely with key research teams to facilitate large scale research proposals in support of university-wide initiatives.

Prior to joining UB, Carol was a grant consultant to municipalities and non-profits, securing millions in funding for economic development, infrastructure, and healthcare initiatives.
