Instructions

Follow the instructions on the Panopto support site for adding quizzes to your videos.

You can add multiple quizzes to a video and each quiz can have multiple questions.
The question types available are:

  • True/False
  • Multiple Choice
  • Multiple Select
  • Fill In the Blank

The options for each quiz are:

  • Allow viewers to retake the quiz
  • Show grade once the quiz is taken
  • Allow review of correct answers and explanations
  • Block advancing in the video until answering this quiz

Students must click the Continue button for their score to be registered in Panopto.

They must click Finish for their score to be registered in UB Learns, if this video is being used in a UB Learns assignment.   See Inserting a Panopto Quiz.

Prevent viewers from skipping ahead

It is possible for a student to look at the table of contents (TOC) and skip ahead in the video to take a quiz. There is no way to hide quizzes in the TOC.

Use the option, “Block advancing in the video until answering this quiz” to prevent students from advancing in the video beyond a quiz until they answer the question(s) and click Continue.

You can also prevent viewers from jumping ahead to take a quiz by disabling seek and variable speed playback (VSP) for individual recordings:

  1. Open the settings for a recording
  2. Select Manage
  3. Under Manage Session:
    • Open the drop-down menu for Seek and variable playback speed behavior
  4. Choose either
    • Disable forward seeking and VSP (recommended): Viewers cannot seek through the video or adjust the playback speed for any portion of the video they have not yet viewed
    • Disable all seeking and VSP:  Viewers are unable to seek or use VSP in any manner, even after they have viewed the video and completed any quizzes
manage > seek and variable playback speed behavior > disable forward seeking and vsp.

Find complete information on disabling seek and VSP on the Panopto support site.

Common Questions

If a student takes a quiz and is only allowed to take it once, what happens when they watch the video again?

  • They have to click Continue to move ahead in the video, but won’t be able to answer the questions again.
  • If available, they will see the results they received when they took the quiz.
  • If available, they can review the correct answers and perhaps show those answers to their friends.
  • Seeing the answers and results can be turned off, in which case they will only see that they took the quiz.

What happens if they download the video, can they still take the quiz? What happens to the answers?

  • The quiz(zes) will not appear in the downloaded video. It plays right through as if there is no quiz.
  • To take a quiz, the student needs to watch the recording in the Panopto web viewer or embedded viewer.
