Korea-America Student Conference

The Asia Research Institute has funding available to support participation by one UB undergraduate student in the summer 2025 Korea-America Student Conference.

What Funding Covers

Available funding will cover the conference participation fee of $4,000, which covers:

  • Transportation between sites during the conference
  • Accommodations
  • Food and programming

Delegates are responsible for the cost of their own round-trip domestic transportation at the beginning and end of the conference and personal expenses during the program (extra food, gifts, etc.).

Who Can Apply

Although the conference itself is open to undergraduates, recent graduates, and graduate students, this ARI funding opportunity is only for currently enrolled, full-time, matriculated UB undergraduate students in good academic standing who plan to return to UB for at least one semester following the conference before graduating.

This funding can only be offered to a student who has applied and been accepted for participation in the 2025 Korea-America Student Conference.

The deadline for both applications (ARI funding and the KASC conference itself), is December 22, 2024, at 11:59 EST. Note that International Student Conferences, Inc., accepts applications for KASC on a rolling basis.

Selection Criteria

The selection process for this funding is competitive. Although more than one UB student may be accepted to participate in the annual KASC conference, ARI funding is only available to support one UB participant in 2025.

Preference will be given to:

  • Students who have demonstrated a strong interest in Korean culture and society.
  • Students who have been enrolled in Korean language or other Korea-related courses at UB.
  • Students who have not previously traveled to or lived in Korea.
  • Students maintaining a GPA of 2.8 or higher

Guidelines

  • Applications will be reviewed by the Asia Research Institute Selection Committee
  • Funding decisions of the committee are final and not subject to appeal
  • The participation fee will be paid directly by the Asia Research Institute to the Korea-America Student Conference.
  • Upon return, the selected participant will be asked to present an information session about the program and will be eligible to serve as a volunteer undergraduate fellow of the UB Asia Research Institute.

Application Requirements

  • Online application form
  • A 300-500 word essay explaining why you wish to participate in this program (to be uploaded with the online application)
  • One letter of recommendation, preferably from a UB faculty member. (We will email a recommendation form to the person indicated in your online application.)
  • Applications for funding must be submitted online by 11:59 pm on December 22, 2024.

If you need assistance with this application, please email AsiaInstitute@buffalo.edu or call (716) 645-2580.
