Luis Colón, PhD, SUNY Distinguished Professor and A. Conger Goodyear Professor of Chemistry, is an internationally recognized analytical chemist. A fellow of the American Chemical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and Royal Society of Chemistry, he has contributed substantially to the field of ultrahigh pressure liquid chromatography and separation science. Colón’s mentorship of students and colleagues from underrepresented backgrounds is central to his scholarship—and, for this work, President Barack Obama presented him the 2015 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring. In 2024, he was honored with AAAS Mentor Award for Lifetime Achievement in recognition of his longstanding commitment to advancing diversity in the chemical sciences.
