The American Academy in Rome invites distinguished artists and scholars from around the world to reside at the Academy for periods generally ranging from one to three months. During their stay, Residents serve as advisors and mentors to Rome Prize recipients and to other members of the Academy community.
School of Architecture and Planning
Julia Czerniak is dean and professor at the School of Architecture and Planning. An internationally recognized design thinker who was educated as both an architect and landscape architect, Czerniak’s research and practice in urban landscapes is at the intersection of these disciplines. Her design, research and creative work has been recognized through exhibition and publication, as well as through award winning competitions. She has authored and edited over 30 publications and participated in more than 50 conferences, panels and events globally. Czerniak has received many awards and honors including a 2024 residency at the American Academy in Rome and the J.B. Jackson Book Prize from the Foundation for Landscape Studies.
