Grades

Students may access grades through HUB or by requesting an official transcript.

Around the midpoint of each term, instructors provide undergraduate students with a mid-term grade to indicate how they are progressing in the course.

Grades may be changed to correct an error, or as the result of re-evaluation. 

Undergraduate students may be able to have a course graded satisfactory / unsatisfactory (“S/U”) instead of receiving a traditional letter grade or “P/F” grade.

Understand how failing (“F”) grades are assigned by faculty, how they are reported, and some of the potential consequences for students.

A grade of Incomplete (“I”) is assigned by an instructor and indicates that additional course work is needed to fulfill the requirements of a given course. An interim grade of “I” may be assigned if the student has not completed all requirements for the course.

If unexpected circumstances beyond a student’s control affect their academic performance during a term, current UB students may contact their academic advisor or department to request a withdrawal for that term. If approved, an academic withdrawal replaces all grades in a given term with a “W,” which indicates withdrawal due to illness or other extenuating circumstances.

Auditing allows students to take a course but not receive a traditional letter grade. Students must register and get instructor approval.
